Terms and Conditions

By placing an order, requesting a transfer, or otherwise using cedarlanefirearms.com or the services of Cedar Lane Firearms (“Cedar Lane Firearms,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), you agree to the Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) below. Cedar Lane Firearms is a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL) operating in the State of Maine by appointment, specializing in firearm transfers and online order fulfillment. Please read these terms carefully before ordering or scheduling a transfer.

All applicable National Firearms Act (NFA) rules apply to any NFA item ordered or transferred through Cedar Lane Firearms, including the additional wait times, tax stamps, and CLEO/trust requirements imposed by federal law.

Payment is processed when an order is placed. It is the customer’s sole responsibility to know and comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws governing the purchase, sale, transfer, possession, transport, or use of a firearm, magazine, or ammunition in the jurisdiction where the customer resides or takes possession.

Cedar Lane Firearms reserves the right to cancel any order, at any time, for any reason, including but not limited to pricing or listing errors, inventory unavailability, suspected fraud, or a good-faith compliance concern.

Once an order has been submitted to a distributor for processing or has shipped, it generally cannot be canceled. If a cancellation is requested after that point, the order must instead be handled under the Returns policy below, and return shipping is at the customer’s expense.

In some cases, Cedar Lane Firearms may have to cancel an order, in whole or in part. Cedar Lane Firearms will provide a refund for the amount of the order, or part of the order, that was canceled.

Customers must carefully inspect any firearm before the 4473 process is started. Once a firearm (including a lower receiver or frame) has been transferred into the customer’s possession, it is not eligible for return. If a defect is discovered after transfer, the customer should contact the manufacturer directly for a warranty claim; Cedar Lane Firearms is glad to help locate the correct manufacturer contact.

The customer is solely responsible for any FFL transfer fee, whether or not the firearm is ultimately taken home — including in cases where a background check results in a denial. Cedar Lane Firearms does not refund or reimburse transfer fees under any circumstances.

Cedar Lane Firearms reserves the right to dispute any bank or credit card chargeback and to decline future orders from a customer who initiates a chargeback after an item has shipped or been transferred.

Customer agrees to pay restocking fees for each eligible, non-defective firearm, lower receiver, or frame returned. Customer also agrees to pay restocking fees for NFA items if the order is canceled before shipment by the distributor or after it has shipped.

All sales of the following items are final; no returns, refunds, or exchanges will be accepted:

  • Firearms (including frames and lower receivers) once transferred into the customer’s possession
  • Suppressors
  • Blemished or “Blem” firearms, frames, and receivers
  • Ammunition and ammunition components
  • Electronics
  • Blank cartridges
  • Bows
  • Arrows
  • Used, worn, or washed clothing

If a defect is discovered in any of these items, the customer should contact the manufacturer directly for a warranty claim. If an item was shipped incorrectly, contact Cedar Lane Firearms directly for assistance.

Orders cannot be amended once placed. Please review your order carefully before submitting payment; contact us as soon as possible if you believe an error was made.

Orders typically ship within 3–5 business days, though holiday and peak-season volume may extend this window. We work hard to get orders to our distributors promptly, and then we are subject to their shipping schedules. We apologize for any delay. If your order has exceeded this window, contact us, and we will investigate the cause of the delay. If an item is not shipping to us, please confirm that we have a current copy of the receiving FFL’s license on file.

Shipping costs are calculated at checkout based on the items in your cart and your delivery ZIP code.

For drop-shipped items, tracking information is emailed once the item leaves the distributor. For items shipped directly to Cedar Lane Firearms, we will contact you once your order arrives and is ready for pickup or transfer. We must comply with Maine’s 72-hour waiting period, which may delay the overall process.

Cedar Lane Firearms operates by appointment. Firearm transfers and in-store pickups must be scheduled in advance — see our frequently asked questions (FAQ) page for more information.

Firearms can only be shipped to a valid, licensed FFL dealer and cannot be shipped to a P.O. Box. It is the customer’s responsibility to know their state and local laws regarding firearm transfers and to contact their receiving FFL in advance to confirm the dealer’s transfer fee and whether they are willing to accept the shipment. The customer assumes all responsibility and cost for a firearm returned due to a receiving FFL’s refusal or failure to accept it.

If you order a handgun, a stockless shotgun, a braced AR-style pistol, a complete AR or AK receiver, or a stripped lower receiver, you must be:

  • A legal resident of the state in which the order is placed and delivered, and
  • At least 21 years of age to complete the transfer through an FFL (18 years of age for long guns other than those listed above, where permitted by federal and state law).

The FFL selection tool is provided for convenience only. Cedar Lane Firearms cannot guarantee that a listed dealer is currently operating, accepting transfers, or that a current FFL is on file. Orders may be delayed or canceled if valid FFL information cannot be obtained. Customers are responsible for confirming all receiving FFL information and transfer policies before placing an order.

Cedar Lane Firearms operates in strict compliance with all applicable federal, State of Maine, and local laws governing the sale and transfer of firearms, firearm parts, ammunition, and related accessories. Nothing on this website or in these Terms constitutes legal advice, and Cedar Lane Firearms makes no representation regarding the legality of any item in any specific jurisdiction outside Maine. It is the customer’s sole responsibility to confirm compliance with the laws of their own jurisdiction.

By purchasing any item from Cedar Lane Firearms, the customer certifies and agrees that:

  • The customer is solely responsible for ensuring that the purchase, possession, ownership, and use of any item purchased comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws in the customer’s jurisdiction;
  • The customer has independently verified that the purchase and intended use of the item are legal where the customer resides and will possess the item;
  • The customer agrees to release, indemnify, and hold harmless Cedar Lane Firearms, its owners, and employees from any liability, claim, or legal consequence arising from the customer’s purchase, ownership, possession, or use of any item purchased.

Cedar Lane Firearms complies with all federal regulations governing the shipment of hazardous materials through common carriers and the U.S. Postal Service. A hazardous material is any article or substance the U.S. Department of Transportation designates as capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, or property during transportation, including but not limited to:

  • Minor blast/minor projection hazard — ammunition
  • Oxidizing substances — certain batteries
  • Flammable solids — black powder
  • Flammable and combustible liquids — cleaners, oils, and aerosol products

Hazardous materials cannot be shipped to a P.O. Box and require a physical shipping address.

Cedar Lane Firearms complies with all state regulations governing magazine capacity. We do not ship high-capacity magazines to states with active magazine capacity restrictions and will not substitute a state-compliant magazine or issue a refund in place of a restricted magazine. It is the customer’s responsibility to know their state’s magazine capacity laws; orders for magazines that are illegal in their state will be canceled and subject to a restocking fee.

By purchasing ammunition from Cedar Lane Firearms, the customer certifies that:

  • The customer is at least 21 years of age (handgun ammunition) or 18 years of age (rifle ammunition), consistent with federal law;
  • The purchase does not violate any local, state, or federal law;
  • The customer has not been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, and is not an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance;
  • The customer is not subject to any court order that would prohibit possessing, ordering, owning, or transferring ammunition;
  • The customer has never been adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution;
  • The customer will not resell or provide ammunition to any minor; and
  • The customer agrees to and accepts all policies described in these Terms.

Cedar Lane Firearms accepts firearms shipped from other retailers or private sellers for transfer to a customer and facilitates private-party sales between individuals, all by appointment.

At the time of pickup or transfer, the purchaser must present:

  • A valid, unexpired, government-issued photo ID (state driver’s license or state ID card, U.S. passport, or military ID); and
  • If the primary ID does not show a current residential address that matches the address on Form 4473, a secondary document showing a current address (e.g., a utility bill, lease, vehicle registration, voter registration card, or state hunting/fishing license issued within the required timeframe) is required.

P.O. Box addresses are not accepted for this purpose.

The general process for a firearm shipped to Cedar Lane Firearms for transfer is:

  • You purchase the firearm from a retailer or private seller.
  • You provide the seller with our FFL email address or confirm that Cedar Lane Firearms’ FFL is already on file with the seller. Many retailers and online marketplaces maintain copies of dealer FFLs.
  • To establish the start of Maine’s 72-hour waiting period, please provide Cedar Lane Firearms with a copy of your order confirmation showing the date and time of the firearm purchase agreement.
  • Upon request, we will provide the seller with a signed copy of our Federal Firearms License.
  • The seller ships the firearm to Cedar Lane Firearms and provides you with tracking information. If the seller is an FFL, a copy of their license must be included with the shipment.
  • Once tracking confirms delivery, contact us to schedule an appointment to complete ATF Form 4473 and begin the background check process. If legally eligible, same-day pickup may be requested but is not guaranteed. If we can accommodate a same-day pickup, an additional $20 expedited service fee will apply.
  • During your appointment, we will complete the required paperwork and collect the transfer fee. If the background check returns a Proceed status and Maine’s 72-hour waiting period requirements have been satisfied, you may take possession of the firearm.
  • If the background check does not result in a Proceed status, please refer to our Background Check Outcomes policy for additional information.
  • Transfer fees are non-refundable and will not be refunded due to delayed, denied, or otherwise unresolved background check results.

Proceed: Once NICS returns a Proceed response and any applicable waiting period has elapsed, you may complete the transaction and take possession of the firearm.

Delayed: If NICS returns a Delayed response, federal law permits (but does not require) an FFL to transfer the firearm after three business days have passed without a final determination, at the dealer’s discretion and where permitted by state law. Cedar Lane Firearms will advise you at the time of your appointment whether it will exercise that discretion. Payment in full is required to hold a firearm pending a delayed determination.

Denied: If NICS returns a Denied response, the firearm cannot be transferred. The item must be returned to the seller at the customer’s expense, and a denied-item fee will also be charged.

Customers who receive a denied background check result and believe the denial was issued in error may appeal the determination through the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Individuals who are frequently delayed or have been incorrectly denied may also consider applying for a Voluntary Appeal File (VAF), which may help prevent future erroneous denials.

Additional information about the NICS appeals process is available at:

Maine law generally requires a 72-hour waiting period between the agreement to purchase a firearm and delivery of that firearm to the buyer (25 M.R.S. § 2015, enacted as Public Law 2023, ch. 678). This waiting period runs concurrently with, and is not added on top of, the time needed to complete a required background check. The law includes limited exceptions, ask us if you believe an exception applies to your transaction.

If a firearm arrives for transfer and you decline to accept it, the item must be returned to the seller at the customer’s expense and subject to a late cancellation fee.

Due to limited storage space, firearms not picked up within 7 days of arrival at Cedar Lane Firearms may be subject to storage fees. Firearms remaining unclaimed for more than 90 days may be subject to additional action as permitted by applicable federal and Maine law. Cedar Lane Firearms reserves the right to pursue all available remedies to recover unpaid transfer, storage, and administrative fees.

Our service fees apply any time a background check is run, regardless of whether the result is Proceed, Delay, or Deny. Firearms will not be held without payment in full.

Cedar Lane Firearms may decline to sell or transfer a firearm to any individual, in its discretion, consistent with applicable law. We are not required to state a reason for declining a transaction, and will never decline a sale on the basis of a protected characteristic such as race, sex, or national origin. Reasons we may decline a transaction include, without limitation, indications of:

  • A suspected straw purchase;
  • Impairment by drugs or alcohol at the time of the transaction;
  • A risk of harm to the customer or others;
  • A lack of the knowledge, experience, or physical capacity to safely handle the item;
  • A reasonable basis to believe the customer is a current unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any other controlled substance (see Section 4.9); or
  • Any other good-faith compliance or safety concern identified by staff.

Maine law provides two legal mechanisms through which a court may restrict an individual’s access to firearms when that individual is believed to present a danger to themselves or others: the “yellow flag” law (25 M.R.S. § 3862-A) and the Extreme Risk Protection Order (“red flag”) Act (25 M.R.S. §§ 2241-2252). Individuals subject to a qualifying order under either law are prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms. Cedar Lane Firearms will not transfer a firearm to any person known to be prohibited from possessing firearms under federal or state law. Please note that a recently issued order may not yet be reflected in the NICS system at the time of a background check.

    Federal law makes it unlawful for a dealer to sell or transfer a firearm to any person the dealer has reasonable cause to believe is an unlawful user of, or addicted to, a controlled substance (18 U.S.C. § 922(d)(3)), and unlawful for such a person to receive or possess a firearm (18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(3)). Marijuana remains a federally controlled substance, and ATF’s current Form 4473 asks every buyer to certify that they are not an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any other controlled substance, regardless of the buyer’s state medical marijuana status.

    Holding a Maine medical marijuana card is not, by itself, a crime. Consistent with longstanding ATF guidance to dealers, however, if a customer discloses, or Cedar Lane Firearms otherwise has reasonable cause to believe, that the customer is a current user of medical or recreational marijuana, Cedar Lane Firearms will decline to complete the transaction, because federal law places the compliance risk of that transfer on the dealer.

    Cedar Lane Firearms is not a warranty repair facility. We make no express or implied warranty on any merchandise, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. All warranties are provided by the original manufacturer under the terms of that manufacturer’s own warranty. If an item requires factory service, contact the manufacturer directly.

    Used firearms and merchandise are inspected by our staff for safe, functional condition before sale, but are sold “as is,” with no warranty expressed or implied and no representation that the firearm has been test-fired. We recommend having any used firearm inspected by a qualified gunsmith before firing, and encourage customers to obtain an owner’s manual from the manufacturer where available.

    Cedar Lane Firearms accepts cash as well as debit and credit cards.

    Cedar Lane Firearms works to keep product information and specifications on this website accurate and current, but errors and changes in circumstance do occur. All information is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Cedar Lane Firearms is not liable for special, indirect, punitive, or consequential damages arising from use of this website or reliance on its content.

    We reserve the right to correct, edit, or remove any product listing at any time. Product photos are for general identification only and may depict optional accessories not included with the listed item; refer to the written product description for contents. Cedar Lane Firearms is not responsible for website performance issues arising from a user’s browser, internet connection, coding issues, or device compatibility.

    Cedar Lane Firearms is not responsible for the content of customer-submitted questions, answers, or reviews on this website nor are we responsible for verifying the accuracy of such content. Views expressed by third-party contributors are their own and are not necessarily shared by Cedar Lane Firearms. We reserve the right, but not the obligation, to monitor and remove such content.

    These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. By placing an order or scheduling a transfer with Cedar Lane Firearms, the customer:

    • Submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of (i) the Maine Superior Court or District Court located in Oxford County, Maine, or (ii) the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine, sitting in Portland or Bangor, for any dispute arising out of or relating to the customer’s order, transfer, or these Terms;
    • Knowingly and voluntarily consents to personal jurisdiction and venue in those courts; and
    • Waives any objection to that venue based on inconvenient forum.

    To the fullest extent permitted by Maine law, the customer agrees to indemnify and hold Cedar Lane Firearms harmless from any third-party claim, cost, damage, or expense (including reasonable attorney’s fees) arising out of the customer’s breach of these Terms, the customer’s violation of applicable law, or the customer’s negligent or wrongful use, possession, storage, or handling of any item purchased or transferred — except to the extent the claim, cost, damage, or expense arises from Cedar Lane Firearms’ own negligence, willful misconduct, or violation of law.

    If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect, and a suitable substitute provision will be applied to carry out the original intent as closely as the law allows.

    Firearms, firearm parts, and ammunition sold by Cedar Lane Firearms are controlled by the U.S. Government and are authorized for export only to the country of ultimate destination for use by the authorized ultimate consignee or end user identified at the time of sale. These items may not be resold, transferred, or otherwise disposed of, to any other country or to any person other than the authorized ultimate consignee or end-user(s), either in their original form or after being incorporated into other items, without first obtaining approval from the U.S. government or as otherwise authorized by U.S. law and regulations.
